A Holistic Education:
School Mission Statement to Parents and Staff
Personal message from Riktam
`Education` is not something separated from `normal
life`- in fact, education is about `finding out` answers-
not just a remembering of data.
Moreover, contrary to what is commonly believed,`happiness`
is not a mysterious quality of existence. The insights
demonstrated by Zen Buddhism reveal that we are only
as `happy` as our perceptions and natural intelligence
are unclouded. Thereby, we possess the ability to
think and process new experiences creatively without
being bounded by restrictive processing.
`Normal education` shapes us for good and worse into
adults with divided minds. Of course, this can`t be
avoided, but to the extent that English is an activity
which involves ` finding out` and not just rote memorized
study, English can maintain childrens` natural born
intelligence…Grasping, learning and growing
from experience, not because of experience. So what
better way to invest in our childrens` future?
Some insights for guidance:
Buddha's last words were
reputedly: "samnasati" or "be a light
unto yourself"
Jesus: "If
your eyes are as pure as a child's, you will enter
the kingdom of heaven"
